"the 1 star crowd has to remind us that they work hard and pay their bills and taxes. It doesn't matter that no one asked them. They feel compelled to tell us anyway."
I've wondered that myself. I'm reminded of the comedy bit about guy who pays for breast augmentation for his wife and then insists on trying to have her show them off to a stranger at a bar, even when the stranger says no.
I think it might be a sense of insecurity. Lots of people work hard, pay their bills and taxes and don't feel compelled say anything about it. I guess they don't crave the attention/recognition like the 1 star folk.
A friend of mine has a theory that it is more of a class conflict within the lower class poor. Those who work versus those who don't. He says it is envy by those who work for those who don't. I think it might be more fear by those who work that they might wind up in the don't work crowd.
Or maybe it is just that those lower class poor who work want to distinguish themselves from those lower class poor who don't. That seems a reasonable motivation. It's kind of like a homeless guy feeling compelled to tell you he went to Harvard. He's still homeless, but at least you now know he is better than the other homeless.

SayWhat,
See ... that's the problem. In our current liberal world, working hard and paying your taxes is not considered a smart thing to do. In fact, according to some, it is only the chumps that work hard and pay taxes. Sigh!!

I fear you missed the point entirely.
Many people work hard and pay their bills and taxes, etc. They say nothing about it because in their mind they are merely doing what they believe to be the right thing. No big deal to them.
On the other hand, the 1 star crowd appears compelled to start whatever they are saying with a statement covering their claim to work hard and pay their bills and taxes. It's like they are going to tell you whether you want to know or not.
Maybe it is what Curious said. They are just insecure. Maybe they just want attention.

GMAB!!! Why should my hard-earned taxes be used to buy a lazy no good lout a cell phone to use to call their pimps, drug dealers, ladies of the evening, etc. Don't kid yourself that those with adequate means will somehow "qualify" for a free cell phone. Regardless of the requirement qualifications, those who know how to "work" the system, will get the free cell phone. This is done all the time for welfare, free school lunches, medical care, etc. Another "give-away" by the Obama administration to those who are too lazy to work and believe the government owes them a living! Stop this madness...

"Of all the people who responded to this thread, how many do you think actually researched the cell phone program prior to offering their comments? 1? None?"
Sad but true.

I think it's jealousy. The poor folk who work are jealous of those who don't. Those who work spend their day busting their hump and see others sitting at home collecting a check and it makes them angry.
This is how the corporate interests keep us divided and keep our attention away from them.

"This just makes me SICK. Why do people feel they are entitled to have expensive items but are not willing to work for them?"
Oh yeah, nothing like a little ridiculous hyperbole to really make you sound stupid. btw...since when did cell phones become "expensive"??
"I'll bet if you look in most trailer parks you'll find more big screen TV’s per person there then in places living the "good" life up in Kingwood or The Woodlands."
And there it is. More pure, unvarnished hatred of the poor. Hate-filled make these ridiculous, unfounded comments based on nothing whatsoever with absolutely NO PROOF to back up their fantasy.

"This is how the corporate interests keep us divided and keep our attention away from them."
You're going to have to explain this one to me.
Why would "corporate interests" want to set employed poor people against unemployed poor people? Why would they care? What do they really gain?
In the corporate mind, poor employed people are easily interchangeable. So if you don't like one of them as an employee, just get another.
Class warfare I can understand. But this situation is within the same class. What am I missing?
