Hurricane Ike I-10 Traffic Gridlock Solution

We all know our government is working very hard to recover from the damage caused by IKE. However, all week the traffic outbound on I-10 has been getting worse. Due to traffic lights not working, traffic is backing up on the feeders all the way up on to the main lanes. It is taking over two hours to drive the 20 miles out to Katy every night, and we are blocking local traffic as we sit in on the “I-10 Parking lot.”

I have a solution…

Reopen the Old Katy HOV lane that is sitting unused, and requires no electricity to operate. Just open the fence that now remains closed just under the 610 overpass on I-10. This will help get traffic out of the way of local traffic helping them, and help get Katy traffic on it’s way so they can make it home before their children’s bedtimes.

If you agree with this solution could you please let both TXDot, and the Mayor’s Office know?

I agree with you and I don't even live in that area nor drive those freeway, BUT I live south of Houston (Webster) and the traffic on 45 going north and well southbound now is HORRIBLE. I thought the HOV lanes were being used for emergency traffic only? Well if the gates are closed, then how is the emergency traffic going to use it? Doesn't make sense to me why they are closed and going unused. I say why don't we just stay home for a month until this is all over with! Too bad this isn't realistic for most. Oh unless we are a Katrina victim that still after this long, does not work and is quite able to, but lives FREE off the hardworking taxpayers. Oh and I know it's not just Katrina victims that do it.

It's time to fix our government since it's so

Other than that God bless all and thanks to all of the hard working people that are trying to restore power, water, roads, houses, etc... and those volunteers that are still helping out. My thoughts and prayers to those that lost lives, homes, etc. One day at a time! It will get better!
